Co-production is on a roll in Wales with new events, innovations, projects and people springing up in all directions. We've also got a great opportunity to get co-pro at the heart of our social services through the publication of the draft Social Services & Well-being Wales Bill which is a really positive step towards citizen-empowerment and partnership working.
As part of our campaign we have written an open letter to the First Minister asking that co-production is enshrined at…

The National Co-production Critical Friends Group (see the Resources section for briefing on the group) recently discussed definitions of co-production. We were asked to supply definitions in advance and there were some really interesting and useful ideas (hopefully someone might post them up here as well?). The group almost came up with a definition (which I thought was pretty impressive, doing that by committee!) and I think that will be publicised more fully in due…

Am developing a new co-production initiative as part of Norfolk County Council's 'Better Bus Area' project. Partnership working with Opening Doors (user-led organisation of people with learning difficulties), transport planners and bus operators: objective is to train 8 people with learning difficulties to be able to use the new design bus information and for them to train others in Phase II. Phase I has just started and Phase II expected to start in April.

As part of the Darzi Fellows programme we are running for NHS London – we have a module on coproduction. We’d really like our Fellows to visit places in London who are working on coproduction and have some good benefits to show. Would you be willing to host a visit? The date is Thursday 21st March in the afternoon (probably about 3pm). The Darzi Fellows are clinical folk working in commissioning throughout London, and they are on a programme which supports them leading significant…

TOWARDS A CHOICE TO GIVE BACK
There is a famous story about a doctor’s surgery with a hedge outside. I have never discovered where it actually is, but it tells us an important story about the future of choice.
The hedge is trimmed once a year in the summer and, when it is trimmed, all these rejected prescriptions fall out. Patients come out of the door with a prescription they don’t real
ly want and shove it in the hedge.
They are…

I was pleased to attend a MAC-UK open day to see firsthand the impact of the innovative North London mental health charity about which I had heard so much. Beginning as ‘Music and Change’ in 2008, MAC-UK engages some of the UK’s most excluded and deprived young people in therapeutic relationships that transform their mental wellbeing and make them far less likely to offend. Their target audience for…

Islington Council co-assess their youth provision with young people. A great adjunct to a co-produced service. It makes sense to evaluate together that which you achieve together.

You might be interested in the 'Family by Family' approach developed in South Australia as an alternative to removing children from families.
This short film describes the approach.
The approach was co-designed with the families it supports.
It develops a family to family peer network - linking 'seeking families' (those experiencing crisis) with 'sharing families' (those with an experience to share) who live…

As the public purse runs dry, local authorities across the country are facing tough decisions. Few services are escaping unscathed, but those for young people, which a local authority does not have statutory duty to provide, are among those hardest hit - with cuts of up to 90 per cent. Young people are waking up to find their youth centres closed, or operating on reduced hours, and many…
