Effective student engagement in health & social care - free workshop

Just wanted to draw your attention to the following free one day workshop - sponsored by the HEA - happening at Sheffield Hallam University on Thursday 08 May 2014. I would be grateful if you could make the following details known to any colleagues for whom you think this will appeal and also through any of your appropriate networks.

Going beyond 'You Said, We Did': exploring notions of effective student engagement in health and social care

The prevailing ethos of treating students as consumers’ limits authentic engagement. This workshop considers practical examples of how students can be involved in co-designing elements of curricula from pre-entry onwards and how they can take appropriate ownership of assessment processes linked to the notion that active involvement increases sense of belonging, ownership and may even result in producing better academic outcomes. It is anticipated that some health and social care students will contribute actively in the event.

This workshop aims:

To offer alternative engagement perspectives which go far beyond viewing students as passive consumers

To share practical examples of authentic co-design approaches from pre-entry to post-graduation

To explore whether active involvement can lead to better academic outcomes
