Why Keeping Connected?

We are living longer than ever – this is a medical, social and economic success that should be celebrated.

It also means a growing consumer market but one that is often misunderstood and whose needs are poorly served.

We all want to feel connected - to those we care about, to the places we live in and to the society of which we are part.  But as we grow older it can become harder to stay in touch.

-Average life expectancy has increased by more than 25 years over the last century and this trend is set to continue.

-Those aged 50+ currently account for a third of the population, an estimated 80% of its wealth and 40% of consumer spending.

-Initial findings from the recent ONS survey on National Wellbeing found that having 'good connections with friends and family' rated second only to health as the most important factor influencing our wellbeing.

-A third of older adults currently have less than weekly contact with a friend, family or neighbour.
