Co-production practitioners network

A network for co-production practitioners

I'm thinking about the merit of developing a higher/ further education module focused on CP that could be offered to a diverse range of people (practitioners, service users, carers, public, politicians et al) to help embed CP as a basic requirement of professional, democratic and public practice; delivered by a diverse group of people with the insight, expertise and integrity to inspire take up of CP as a mainstream practice accessible to all.

I'm keen not to create barriers by over-professionalising CP, encourage the professionals to come out and play a more equitable game so delivery might best be carried out by local groups to create a revenue stream for both community groups and HE/ FE operating on principles of social justice.

Equally keen for any resource created in this context to be open source/ collective commons and ideally sidestep all that IP nonsense (naive optimism strikes again!)

Would there be demand for a product of this nature from LAs, NHS et al to both equip their staff/ organisation to embrace CP and forge better relationships with their public?

Lots of half-baked thoughts spinning about in my head about this idea so I'll stop there for now and ask for your feedback and participation if you think the topic has some legs and you'd like to join the conversation.

Hi Ian

Deb and Nina from Cardiff University, School of Healthcare and Ruth from Cardiff Met Teaching & Learning Unit are meeting on Monday to talk about your proposal. I'm going along too. Lots of interest and we'll get a joint response to you very soon. I'm in Scotland at the moment talking to co-prodders - have mentioned your idea and there's interest here too. An idea whose time has come I reckon. Nice one!

Cheers

Ruth

This sounds interesting Ian.

I work developing co-production on the 'front line' with service users of Look Ahead - a supported housing organisation. My feelings would be that any module on CP would benefit from service user or 'expert by experience' input - let me know if you would like to speak to or work with any of our service users. Some have extremely interesting insights on the power of co-production both to the individual and the service as a whole.

Thanks

George

Hi Ruth

Really encouraged by your reply, thank you.

Yes, let's talk and it would also be good to connect with people at Cardiff Uni as well. Lots of good stuff happening in your neck of the woods and I look forward to catching up in the near future

best wishes

Ian

Hi Ian

Really interesting and timely idea. I'd be delighted to contribute, or just to chat about this / publicise it. Would certainly be worth your while contacting the academic staff at Cardiff University School of Healthcare Studies: they have put together a superb curriculum based on Appreciative Inquiry and problem-based-learning and are involved in an Welsh initiative to move co-pro to the forefront of the Welsh social/political agenda. Let me know if you'd like me to put you in touch with each other.
