Co-production practitioners network

A network for co-production practitioners

Hello everybody.

This is my first post – yet I find myself needing to apologise straight away…I'm asking for help. Please read on…

Each year, a person interested in issues relating to sustainable-practice within the design profession has taken a role as a 'client' on an undergraduate project I've been delivering at Cardiff School of Art and Design (CSAD). The 'client' role doesn't require that work be commissioned (a brief is given to the students by members of CSAD staff) – rather this is a symbolic role, where students discuss and present their project work (produced under staff guidance) to that 'client'.

Past 'clients' have previously made themselves available to view and discuss the students' work typically for one half-day and two full-day sessions during October and November.

The name of the project is 'Sustainable:ME?', which has developed over recent years to its current form. In its early stages it sought to address issues relating to the reduction, the re-use and the recycling of material resources. Its present agenda reflects the gradual maturing of this project where it seeks to identify issues relating to human relationships and activities surrounding the use of materials and resources. This will be the final year that the project is delivered (due to changes in CSAD's curriculum).

The project brief is based on a single question, "Just how sustainable is the world of graphic design?" Students are then set tasks to research the implications of that question and to use graphic languages to 'tell a story' based on the findings of that research. These students will have just entered their second year. 'Sustainable:ME?' will be their first project after the summer vacation – and is consequently designed to meet them at that 'second-year' level.

If any one person amongst you would be willing to consider playing the 'client' role this October and November, your contribution would be highly-valued, and would help our young undergraduates develop their role as designers.

If you are interested, I would be only too happy to discuss more details with you via eMail. I look forward to your response…

Sincerely,
Neil Angove

Hi Neil - you can count me in - although my background isn't in design, I'm active in ThinkARK (http://www.thinkark.co.uk/) and have quite a varied background (http://www.beamazingtoday.co.uk/about/) and if I can be of support I shall do so! Email me details at noreen@beamazingtoday.co.uk if you think this would be a good fit :)

Kind regards,

Noreen
