Co-production practitioners network

A network for co-production practitioners

Hi Folks

Sorry for being rather quiet on this site - the Scottish Co-production Network (SCN) has been very busy over the last year, so I haven't been so good at blogging! So a wee update on what we have been up to, and an invitation to get in touch if any of our activities are relevant to you or you'd like to know more!

Our membership....is now at 422, and this continues to grow at a steady pace along with an information mailing list of 270 people. An brief analysis in July 2013 showed that the network continues to represent a broad range of individuals which when broken down by organisation shows predominantly ‘regional’ and  ‘national’ level third sector organisations and ‘networks’; with increasing membership from health boards and local authorities.

Our website is being kept up to date by our new Information & Communications Officer, Sam Jordan who provides support to the network membership and website resource with relevant materials, events, publications, members’ area and newsletter functions http://www.coproductionscotland.org.uk/ (part time as part of his role at SCDC).  Contact sam@scdc.org.uk. We continue to use #coproductionscotland for our own activities and events, and also follow #coproduction. Please find us on twitter if you’d like to connect - @SCDC_Olivia or @SCDC_Sam

The network has co-hosted two national learning events so far this year - The Esther Network Seminar, in June where Nicoline Vacerberg, Director of the Esther Network, Jonkoping, Sweden, visited Scotland with colleagues. SCN co-hosted an event with JIT to enable members to learn more about this model of person-centred health and social care. More information available on the SCN website.

And then in August we held - How are we doing? Getting to grips with evaluation and co-production  - a learning seminar co-designed and delivered with two network members.  Participants were invited to think about the role of evaluation in their co-production practice, and then to engage in dialogue around the values and principles which underpin evaluation within a co-production context, along with challenges, issues and good practice’.  Two practice examples were demonstrate, videos of the inputs are available on the website.

We are also planning further learning events in the coming months on Early Years & Co-production (a key theme in Scottish policy with a national Collaborative well underway); and Neighbourhood approaches to wellbeing - bringing together a range of public health folks in Glasgow with network members to tie together themes of health and wellbeing using asset-based approaches at a community level.

We also continue to support our members who are organising events and activities at a local level, with possible events with members in Ayrshire, Aberdeen, Renfrewshire, Highlands and Islands and Shetland.

Through myself and the Reference Group we provide support to national programmes such as People Powered Health and Wellbeing programme  (coproduction within Person Centred Health and Social Care);  and The Early Years Collaborative. We supported the design and delivery of a co-production breakout session at the National NHS conference in Glasgow in June and as with previous years, we will support the Joint Improvement Team at Scottish Government in the planning of a national conference and/or series of events in early 2014.

The national Reference Group continues to meet to inform the strategic direction of the network but also to take forward SCN’s profile among relevant national policy forum. We contribute the UK wide Co-production Critical Friends Group.

What else...? Oh yes we participated in the Scottish Health Council's consultation event on involvement in relation to the proposed Integration of Health and Social Care Bill; delivered an input to a national learning event organised by the Autism Network Scotland around co-production in relation to the implementation of the National Autism Strategy; and will meet with a Third Sector Interfaces Forum to explore opportunities to engage with TSIs around co-production.

So lot's going on - get in touch at olivia@scdc.org.uk
