Background to your work
Nick is a registered Social Worker, who is currently the Planning Officer for Older People’s Services in City and County of Swansea. He has been working with older people since 1993 in a wide range of operational and service development posts within both Powys and City and County of Swansea. His particular areas of interest include a participative action learning approach to service and workforce development and research into practice, especially in the areas of outcome based planning and evaluation, relationship centred support and community engagement.

In 2009, Nick co-ordinated a Social Services Improvement Agency (SSIA) sponsored assessment and care management project in Swansea, entitled ‘All Together Now’, which was focussed on supporting the development of best practice across the purchaser-provider ‘divide’ in older people’s social services, through collaborative and relationship centred approaches. This included an outcome focussed domiciliary care pilot, and a biographical and strengths based approach to dementia service development in care homes and day services.

He is currently lead convenor of an OPAN (Older People & Ageing Research and Development Network) Relationship Centred Practice Research Development Group, which is focusing on an approach to working with older people that recognises the interdependence of older people, carers and frontline staff, and the importance of relationships in assessment, support planning and service delivery.

A belated hello and welcome to the co-production practitioners network Nick, thanks for joining us!

The practitioners network is supported by nef but all content is developed by members, for members. There's over 600 of us now from a wide range of backgrounds. To make the most of this fantastic resource, and in the spirit of co-production, do give others the chance to get involved by asking them to help you or sharing what you know with others.

Some of the following areas are good starting points;

Network groups – join your regional group for face to face and online contacts close to home. There's a great network for Wales with lots of activities underway to bring people together and grow co-production.

Resources and Videos bring co-production to life - add your own and view others.

The Blog carries the latest news, debate and opportunities for co-production practitioners. See what’s going on, add in your own comments or start a new thread.

It would really help to know how you heard about the network and what motivated you to join. Please let me know at lucie.stephens@neweconomics.org. Also, please share the details of the network with colleagues or contacts you think would be interested.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Lucie

Head of Co-production, nef
