Background to your work
Director of Student Engagement in a Lambeth based all through school. The provision is integral in supporting families, students and school staff, in raising young people's motivation, commitment to learning and engagement in education. Our vulnerable young people and families access this through a bespoke package of academic, emotional and social support.

The Base - An in-house alternative provision for young people in supporting their social and emotional needs through family engagement and an academic focus for those struggling with a mainstream timetable. These students are some of our most vulnerable with social services, youth offending, drug, alcohol and sequel exploitation being increasing barriers to their learning. We have managed to prevent referring students to the local Pupil Referral Unit through our own provision and increased success for some of our most vulnerable students.

Mentoring Team - Our outstanding mentoring team that work 1-1 with students as well as group based programmes. There are clear structures, learning objectives and assessment in place to give students the best chance of success. Our mentors engage students when they lack motivation and a sense of purpose.

Attendance & Punctuality Intervention - Helping families and students develop strategies around organisation and parenting to ensure students are safeguarded and attending full time education. We have incorporated parental engagement and given them the opportunity to co-design our programmes to support them and their families.

Referral Centre - A punitive measure (internal exclusions area) initially before my leadership. There is very much a focus on assessment of behaviour, supporting dietary concerns and needs. A real focus on the therapeutic measure to help students avoid exclusions in the future.

Alternative Provision (External) - Leading on quality assuring all alternative provision has the quality to continue supporting our young people. Regular contact and learning walks.
The team are constantly developing new programmes/projects to support young people and different needs (Anxiety/self esteem/conflict management/NEETs/drug and alcohol, etc.). We ensure there is a clear pathway into apprenticeships and vocational courses that are student led.

Why we do it?

To enable students with social and emotional well-being difficulties to develop restorative and solution focused approaches to their everyday experiences. In addition, to offer vulnerable young people a selection of vocational and alternative provisions that will broaden their learning experience, promote effective self learners and enhance their opportunity of placements at FE provisions and apprenticeships.

I have something very vital to disclose to you, but I found it difficult to express myself here on coprod-network.ning.com because it is a public site. Could you please get back to me to my private email contact address (  janerollins145@yahoo.com  ) so that we can discuss privately. My regards, Jane
