Background to your work
Timebanking in Leicestershire is a way for organisations and individuals to share their skills and assets to earn credits, which then can be spent within the community of ‘time bankers’ on things that they require.
For every hour contributed a credit is earned (1 hour = 1 credit).
In its basic form, a Timebank rewards local people for helping others. For every hour a person spends helping someone, they get an hour of time in return in the form of a ‘time credit’. They can ‘spend’ this ‘time credit’ asking for services they need or want.
The principle being that by recognising people as assets and that everyone has skills to share;
• We can redefine work/labour to include the unpaid ‘core economy’ of work/labour in neighbourhoods and communities; allowing the nurturing of reciprocity and exchange rather than dependency.
Currently Leicestershire County Council is behind an organisation to organisation Timebank which has been running since September 2012. It allows organisations that operate in social care and health to join and trade their skills and assets to earn ‘time credits’ which can then be spent furthering their business aims and the aims of the people who use their services.
Health transfer money has been secured for 18 months (Oct 2012 – March 2014) to allow ‘Timebanking’ to be considered as a tool for service delivery. Allowing the project to research, plan and deliver ‘Timebanking in Leicestershire’ in two pilot areas: Coalville & Lutterworth to gauge just how successful Timebanking could be as a community service delivery tool.

Hello and welcome to the co-production practitioners network Lynne, thanks for joining us!

The practitioners network is supported by nef but all content is developed by members, for members. There's over 750 of us now from a wide range of backgrounds. To make the most of this fantastic resource, and in the spirit of co-production, do give others the chance to get involved by asking them to help you or sharing your skills with others.

Some of the following areas are good starting points;

Network groups – join your regional group for face to face and online contacts close to home. There's a strong network across the UK now if you're looking for some local face to face contacts, just go to the networking page to find people near to you.

Resources and Videos bring co-production to life - add your own and view others.

The Blog carries the latest news, debate and opportunities for co-production practitioners. See what’s going on, add in your own comments or start a new thread. Perhaps you would blog about the work you are doing to develop timebanking locally? I know it would be of interest to other practitioners.

It would really help to know how you heard about the network and what motivated you to join. Please let me know at lucie.stephens@neweconomics.org. Also, please share the details of the network with colleagues or contacts you think would be interested.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Lucie

Head of Co-production, nef
