Mark Pilgrim's Dive Into Python 3 is a hands-on guide to Python 3 and its differences from Python 2. As in the original book, Dive Into Python, each chapter starts with a real, complete code sample, proceeds to pick it apart and explain the pieces, and then puts it all back together in a summary at the end. I bought the print copy of Dive Into Python '20 May 2004' and regret it. The 2009 SoHo Books edition is just a reprint of an earlier edition; it isn't updated for current production Python. The book is only current to Python 2.3 or so; at the time of this review, current production Python is 2.7.2. Python 2.7.0. Note: A bugfix release, 2.7.16, is currently available.Its use is recommended. Python 2.7.0 was released on July 3rd, 2010. Python 2.7 is scheduled to be the last major version in the 2.x series before it moves into an extended maintenance period. A clever reader read the previous section and took it to the next level. The biggest headache (and performance drain) in the program as it is currently written is the regular expression, which is required because you have no other way of breaking down a Roman numeral. Portable Python 2.7.6.1. This package contains following applications/libraries: PyScripter v2.5.3; PyCharm Community Edition 3.1.2 (Thanks to cebik); NumPy 1.8.1 I can't say anything about the Python 2 book, but Dive Into Python 3 was great for me. I've read it a couple of months ago with no prior Python experience, and before I knew it I was writing scripts for some third party app that I liked to use.
