Co-production practitioners network

A network for co-production practitioners

Dear All,

Thank you to those who have already completed our short survey. I'm putting up this post in regards to a further request for groups to fill one in and if possible forward on to their local networks and contacts. If you could complete the short survey linked at the end of this email, we would really appreciate it. If you would also like to get in touch with us to discuss our project more then please do so using the details on our website www.t4yp.org.
Time for Young People is a Lottery funded project supporting organisations to establish successful time banking schemes that engage young people aged 5 – 25 across South Wales. T4YP is underpinned by mutuality; for every hour a young person contributes to their community they are entitled to one hour in exchange. Young people can acquire time credits by participating in the production of public services that benefit the community. These time credits are then used to access a range of cultural, educational and social activities.
T4YP compliments current youth policies that promote active citizenship and participation as a foundation for civil society. T4YP balances young people’s rights and responsibilities as members of their community, harnessing their skills and energy for public good. It provides youth organisations with an empirically proven methodology for the delivery of current Welsh policies: The 2006 ‘Children and Young People – Rights to Action’ and ‘Making the Connections - Delivering Beyond Boundaries’. These policies implement the principles of Article 12 of the UN Convention on the rights of the child by taking steps to ensure that all children and young people have opportunities to contribute and have their voices heard in making decisions on issues which impact on their lives.
Over the past 2 years T4YP has been working with organisations across RCT, Merthyr, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Cardiff to embed time banking within their work and change the conversation they have with young people. We intend to extend current provision and expand T4YP, to extend our support to also cover Monmouthshire, Newport, the Vale of Glamorgan, Neath Port-Talbot, Swansea and work in Partnership with Creation Development Trust to compliment their work and further active young citizenship across the county of Bridgend. We are also looking to tailor our support more in this 2nd phase to address the needs of the groups we have worked with based on the conversations we have had with them. We are therefore currently undertaking a scoping exercise to look at the existing levels of co-production taking place with young people across these authorities and to further look at the need for expanding the geographical areas we cover and the nature of support we provide. A Lottery bid incorporating this work will be submitted early 2013.
Many thanks,

Nathaniel Freeman
